‘Soft’ opening date confirmed for White Lion pub
A White Lion spokesperson has confirmed that the pub will have a 'soft' opening from Friday 31 May 2024.
The historic pub, based in Stockport town centre's Underbanks, will be previewing its new look, and possibly some food and drink, as part of the opening.
Just shy of a 'grand opening', a soft open will allow the venue to try out its new services on a more phased basis.

Kate Roughley sentenced to 14 years in prison following baby Genevieve's death
A nursery worker from Heaton Norris has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, after she was found guilty of the manslaughter of a nine-month-old baby.
Kate Roughley had left baby Genevieve in 'mortal danger', by putting her in a "very unsafe sleeping environment" on a bean bag at Cheadle Hulme's Tiny Toes nursery.
Genevieve died from asphyxiation at the nursery on 9 May 2022, which was closed soon after. The building is now owned and managed by a different company.

What happens during a general election
The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called for a general election, which is due to take place on July 4.
A general election is where the PM asks for the permission of the monarch, King Charles III, to dissolve Parliament. Dissolving parliament usually takes several days, n which time current business in the House of Commons will have to be wrapped up.
Polling day, when the general public cast their votes on who they want to be their next MP, usually takes place 25 working days on from when the election is called.

Cllr Suzanne Wyatt elected as new mayor for Stockport
Cllr Suzanne Wyatt has been elected as Stockport borough's new mayor for the 2024/25 term.
Cllr Wyatt was elected unanimously at a meeting of Stockport Council this afternoon (Tuesday 21 May). She replaces Cllr Graham Greenhalgh, who has held the position since May 2023.
The mayor is the 'first citizen' in the borough. Their role includes chairing full council meetings, visiting events across the borough, and leading civic ceremonies.
Cllr Kerry Waters and Mrs Wendi Nadin will continue as deputy Mayor and deputy Mayor's consort respectively.
