Police officers made a 'significant' arrest and seized two knives during a patrol around Shaw Heath on Tuesday 21 May.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's dedicated knife crime team were deployed to what was described as a 'hotspot' area, and noticed a man who 'roused suspicions'.

The officers conducted a stop and search, which led to the 55-year-old man's arrest on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possession of a bladed article.

Two knives have now been removed from Stockport streets.

Inspector Jon Ezard said: "This arrest shows the importance of hotspot policing as well as our power to stop and search.

"Our deployments are data driven, based on where we know incidents involving knives have taken place, or we have intelligence about people carrying knives.

"I hope today's arrest serves as a reminder to those who choose to carry knives, that we are out there, in your areas, and we are taking robust, proactive action to tackle knife crime and related offences."

Anybody who is concerned about knife crime, or who has information, is encouraged to contact police on 101, or online, or by contacting Crimestoppers.
