Stockroom - Stockport's new library and 'cultural space' - to open in Spring 2025
Stockroom - Stockport's new library and cultural space - will open in spring 2025.
The new building is based in the Merseyway, and will host library services, historical archives, a cafe, and a children's space.
Further still, Stockroom will host a studio space which will be used for events, such as yoga, toddler play, literature, music, stand-up comedy, and more.
A Stockport Council spokesperson said: "It will be the place in Stockport for getting together, getting involved or just popping by for a brew."
A new image revealed by the council (the header image for this article) offers a preview of the interior design of the building.
Speaking of this preview, Cllr Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport, said: "Sharing these fantastic images of Stockroom is really exciting and brings our creative vision to life.
"After working so closely with the community and creative partners to create a welcoming space for anybody and everybody, this latest milestone feels like a huge achievement by everyone involved.
"I'm really proud of what we have achieved, the space looks incredible, and I can't wait for Stockroom to open next year so residents and visitors can get involved in arts and crafts, enjoy live music and performances, learn a new skill and have access to cutting-edge learning and IT facilities."
Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "Stockroom is an integral part of our transformation of Merseyway and the wider £1bn town centre investment which is currently underway.
"The project will transform 135,000 sq. ft of vacant retail units and continue our work to create a vibrant, thriving town centre fit for the future.
"The images look superb and I'm looking forward to Stockroom welcoming its first visitors as we continue to make Stockport the best place for all our residents to live happy and healthy lives."
