Stockport's new police district commander pledges to tackle anti-social behaviour
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has appointed a new district commander for Stockport.
Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes has been appointed to the position, in what GMP describes as "a new phase of leadership at the district level".
Ch Supt Hughes has pledged to strengthen Stockport's neighbourhood team, with a 'specific focus on anti-social behaviour'.
He has worked in the police service for 27 years, predominantly in crime and intelligence roles at district and force level.
Ch Supt Hughes said: “I am excited to work alongside the excellent team at Stockport to ensure that we leave every situation knowing we have made a positive difference. It is vital we create a safe and secure environment for the public to go about their day with confidence.
“I firmly believe that focusing our efforts on reaching the greatest outcome for the public encourages officers to be the absolute best they can be for our community. I am working with partners to address concerns unique to our area and reach solutions which maintain the safety of those in Stockport.
“In policing we are often called during the most distressing times of people’s lives, and it is important we remember that everything we do comes back to a victim, who comes to us in their hour of need. Providing a caring response and supporting victims while we investigate crime is fundamental.
“I will strive to ensure that policing is fair and effective, with a strong commitment to officers being out and about, engaging with the public and showing they are there to make a positive impact on the community.”
