The orange zone (top floor) of Merseyway car park will undergo a 'programme of essential structural repairs and waterproofing work' from July to Autumn.
Stockport Council has said that this is to 'prevent further wear and tear' and ensure the safety of car park users.
The council also adds: "The works will help to protect this town centre asset and support businesses as well as providing a further boost to the town centre's £1 billion regeneration."
Work on the orange zone will take place during drier months to mitigate weather disruption to the repair process. This zone is the main area of parking accessed from St Petersgate and the bridge over Chestergate.
Entry to the car park from this access will remain open for the majority of the works, although some areas of the orange zone and the exit over the bridge will need to be closed for periods of the works, during which signage will direct to alternative spaces and exits.
Alternative vehicle exits are onto Chestergate from the lower level of the orange zone, or via the Redrock spiral ramp.
The council has said that works will be coordinated with other events and roadworks in the town centre to minimise disruption.
There will still be approximately 1,000 spaces open at all times within Merseyway/Redrock Car Park, with other car parks available across the town centre.
The open areas of the car park will be clearly signed, including access to Blue Badge parking.
