Stockport was in the national eyes this morning, as Market Place in the town centre featured on the BBC programme Morning Live.
The half-timbered Marketplace Studios, the elegant stone majesty of the Produce Hall and Angel Inn, the winding side streets - all were on show for a national audience this morning as a team from the 'topical live' show set up a crew just outside Market Hall.
Presenter OJ Borg and expert Dr Helen Holmes ran a vox pop on recycling; Stopfordians were quizzed on plastic recycling, with the aim of showcasing that not all plastics are meant to go in the same bin.
The confusion which ensued over which plastics can be recycled and where served to showcase the University of Manchester's (UoM) 'One Bin to Rule Them All' project.
Given that there are different rules on recycling for different local authorities, (there are an estimated 39 different bin regimes nationally), the UoM project proposes one bin for all plastics.
A statement on the project's website states: "Simplifying plastic recycling for consumers and retaining value within plastic packaging waste streams, our work aims to eliminate plastic from being released into the environment."
Readers can learn more and catch Stockport's 15 minutes of fame (although certainly not the first) on BBC iPlayer.
