A Stockport fish and chip shop remains in the running for one of the UK's most hotly-contested culinary awards.

Taylors, based in Woodley precinct, is in the top three for the National Fish & Chip awards, in the 'training and development' category.

Taylors is doing Stockport proud as the only Greater Manchester restaurant in this category - indeed, it's also the only North West restaurant left in the running.

The other two restaurants are Mr C's in Selby, and Eric's Fish & Chips in Thornham. The winner will be announced in February 2025.

Taylors is open from 12pm-2pm and 4pm-7.30pm from Tuesday to Saturday.

This top three shortlist comes after a 'rigorous' process of elimination. Now, a panel of fish and chip experts is going over the remaining shortlisted restaurants with a 'fine-tooth comb'. Getting this far is an achievement in and of itself!

As a spokesperson for the awards said: "Businesses from around the country have been put to the test to showcase their roster of incentives such as training programmes, skills enhancement and additional qualifications that encourage and empower team members to see that the world is their oyster."

The spokesperson added: "The awards' judging process is designed to be rigorous to ensure high standards are exceeded and continuously raised and be a catalyst to motivate chip shop teams and the industry."
