Just after Stockport finds its way onto a list of best places for first time buyers (The Times), and best places to retire (Which?), it appears on another list.
This time, it wasn't the parks or the house prices which were lauded, but the shopping scene.
The town featured in The Telegraph's list of '25 best places to shop'. The newspaper singled out - predictably, at this point - Stockport's Underbanks, the little warren of independent shops and eateries dubbed by some as 'the new Northern Quarter'.
Fashion editor Bibby Sowray wrote: "While Manchester has everything to offer in terms of big-name high street shopping, those in the know are heading outside the city to Stockport - specifically the underbank area."
Special mention was given to Top of the Town, Plant Shop, and Old Town General Store.
Keegan Flowers, general manager of the newly-opened Alfredo's Social, shared the optimism about the Underbanks.
In a recent interview with Nub News, he said: "In three years time, it's going to be an amazing atmosphere. There are so many up and coming businesses.
"It's better here than it is in Manchester, where the market is saturated and overpriced.
"It's about building excitement, and giving other people who are looking to invest a bit of reassurance that something can be done, and that change is coming. The more stuff there is down here, the better it is for everyone.
"It's going to be such a nice atmosphere. If all these places have outdoor seating, it's going to be such a lush place to come."
