Stockport County donates more than 7,000 free PE kits to primary school children

Stockport County has donated more than 7,000 free PE kits to primary school children across the borough.
Launched in 2024, the 'Kits by County' scheme aims to help all children in the borough to take part in sport, regardless of financial background.
County said the initiative will ensure every child "still has the opportunity to become the next superstar from Stockport".
After taking part in the scheme, local schools are already reporting a direct increase in the number of students taking part in PE lessons.
As teacher Jessica Tighe has said: "For our children, Kits by County has removed the physical and social barriers to PE and ensured equal access.
"The children are more engaged, more confident, and able to move more freely - it's been a really positive part of our school journey."
Simon Wilson, Chief Executive at Stockport County said: "As we look towards Kits by County's third year, it's an important moment to reflect on the impact the programme has already had - and the role it can continue to play.
"We're proud that it is making a genuine difference to the health, wellbeing and participation of thousands of children across Stockport, helping ensure every young person can be active and feel part of their school community.
"Our focus now is on continuing to grow that impact in the years ahead."
The kits are funded by County fans themselves - every time a fan buys a shirt, £2 of the price goes to the Kits by County scheme.
