Stockport Council will have two familiar faces at the helm as it begins the new municipal year.

Cllr Mark Roberts and Cllr Jilly Julian will remain as the Council's leader and deputy leader, respectively, in the wake of last month's local elections that saw the Liberal Democrats take control of the borough with 34 of the available 63 seats.

Marple South & High Lane councillor, Colin MacAllister, returns to the cabinet after a year out to take the Children, Families and Education portfolio.

The rest of the top table stays the same:

  • Cllr Jake Austin (Hazel Grove): Housing and Environment
  • Cllr Grace Baynham (Norbury & Woodsmoor): Parks, Highways and Transport Services Cllr Helen Foster-Grime (Cheadle Hulme South): Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care
  • Cllr Michaela Meikle (Marple North): Economy, Regeneration and Skills
  • Cllr Dan Oliver (Offerton): Communities, Culture and Public Protection
  • In addition to her role as deputy leader, Cllr Julian will also be responsible for Finance, Resources and Innovation.

Cllr Roberts said on his re-appointment: "If you've been in Stockport recently, you'll have seen how things are changing really, really fast.

"There's loads more to come this year, with work happening across our communities, across our towns and all of our neighbourhoods, making it easier for you to access the services you need where you live.

"We are looking forward to leading Stockport Council over the next year, as we look to deliver for all our residents across the whole of Stockport."

The other local political parties have also appointed their group leaders for 2026/27.

Cllr Rachel Wise (Reddish North) will head the Labour opposition, replacing Cllr Christine Carrigan after she stepped down following the party's loss of five seats in the May elections.

Cllr Liz Crix (Reddish South) stays the leader of the Greens for a second term.

The Stockport Community Group, which includes the Edgeley Community Association and independents, will have Cllr Asa Caton (Edgeley) at the helm.

The Independent Ratepayers will be led by Cllr Anna Charles-Jones (Heald Green), who has now been a councillor for 10 years.

Meanwhile, the newest additions to the council chamber, Reform UK, will see Cllr Brian Battle (Manor) as its group leader.
