A Stockport-based company has been fined after multiple health and safety issues were found during an inspection.

Stockport Development Limited, a property developer, was found by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to have a lack of fire alarms, cluttered walkways and poor welfare provision for workers on their site.

Before this inspection there had been four previous visits, which all showed similar health and safety risks. This led to an investigation being launched by HSE.

The investigation established that the company had repeatedly not considered warnings and advice given by HSE. As well as failing to manage health and safety during construction work.

Stockport Development limited pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching construction regulations. They were ordered to pay a fine of £45,000 at Manchester Magistrates court on Friday 12th December.

HSE Inspector, Claire Whitehurst, said: ""This company showed a total disregard for keeping its workers and members of the public safe by failing to meet the most basic health and safety standards.

"Companies should be aware that HSE will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action, including prosecution, against those that fall below the required standards, even where no incident has occurred."

HSE is the national regulator for workplace health and safety.
