Stockport businesses plagued by ‘unauthorised guests’ causing ‘disruption and damage’
Businesses in Stockport have been plagued by 'unauthorised' visitors causing 'disruption and damage.'
Spark Business Park, based on Hamilton Road near Portwood roundabout, has faced 'considerable costs and damages' due to the problem, with vehicles able to access the site at 'all times of the day' through the existing temporary swing gate.
The business park has a number of occupiers, including independent companies and a Toshiba office, but problems have been caused by people going to the site out of regular office hours.
The number of issues from 'unwelcome' visitors has led to a planning application for a new gate, with a rising barrier and bollards.
A report submitted with the plan states: "Over the past few years there have been considerable costs and damages incurred to the site and neighbouring buildings due to unauthorised guests being able to access the park during out of office hours.
"The following damage incurred are as follows but not limited to:
- Considerable disruption to the unit owners
- Blocking entry and exit access to units on the business park
- Property damages to the units and infrastructure around them
- Costs incurred to the clean-up and repair of the site after unauthorised guests.
"The existing temporary gate is unfit for purpose long-term and will only provide unsatisfactory results at keeping the business park safe during out of office hours."
It adds: "The proposed vehicle management system will be comprised of a rising traffic barrier with connected rising bollards to prevent forceful entry, both on the road and pavement to the bike shed."
The plan includes offering 24-hour access to those permitted to use the business park, with motion detection to identify if vehicles are obstructing the gate whilst it is closing.
Bosses behind the application hope that it will provide a 'noticeable improvement to the safety of companies within the business park and the individuals in the area. '
