A Stockport fish and chip shop has won one of the UK's most hotly-contested culinary awards.

Taylors, based in Woodley precinct, won at the National Fish & Chip awards, in the 'training and development' category.

Taylors is doing Stockport proud as the only Greater Manchester restaurant which picked up an award at this prestigious ceremony.

The National Fish & Chip awards are organised by the National Federation of Fish Fryers (NFFF), and has been running annually for 37 years.

The aim is to "honour the skills, innovation and dedication of businesses across the UK".

The winners were announced in February 2025 in London.

Taylors is open from 12pm-2pm and 4pm-7.30pm from Tuesday to Saturday.

All the restaurants went through a 'rigorous' process of elimination, where a panel of fish and chip experts went over the shortlisted restaurants with a 'fine-tooth comb'.

Other big winners this year include Yarm Road Fish and Chips in Darlington and Bells Fish and Chips in Durham, which won takeaway of the year and restaurant of the year respectively.

Andrew Crook, president of the NFFF, said this year's entrants "have shown the abundant passion for fish and chips is only deepening".

"The bar for the National Fish & Chip Awards is set higher each year across the criteria the competitors are evaluated against, and our new titleholders have put everything into elevating their menus, sharpening their skills and developing their expertise.

"The quick-service sector is constantly changing but what remains is that customers expect a high-quality product that tastes like heaven, that sustainability is carefully considered throughout the experience and the service is on-point. Each winner hits the mark on all these fronts and their hard work is achieving national attention.

"On behalf of the NFFF, I'd like to say a big 'congratulations' and 'thank you' to these businesses for being shining examples of greatness in the fish and chip industry."
