Plan for 250 family homes in Bramhall takes step forward

Plans to build 250 homes in a Stockport village have taken a step forward.
Developer Jones Homes is preparing to submit a planning application to build new 'family homes' on land off Hall Moss Lane in Bramhall, by the A555.
Leaflets about the scheme say it will create an 'attractive residential development' close to the village centre, with a new linear park, play areas, and contributions towards supporting local infrastructure.
The plans made progress this week after a 'screening opinion' was submitted to Stockport council about the potential environmental impacts of the work.
This helps to decide whether a more detailed report on the environmental impact is needed when a planning application is submitted.
Half the homes would be designated as 'affordable' according to the leaflet from Jones Homes, with intermediate and social rent properties.

But concerns were raised by Bramhall South and Woodford Cllr Peter Crossen who last month demanded a plan for "appropriate infrastructure first" before new homes are built in the area.
He added: "Residents of our ward have been and continue to be more than hospitable when it comes to new homes in our area, but there comes a time where we need to pause and ask is Bramhall South and Woodford being asked to take more than its fair share of the borough housing targets."
Jones Homes declined to comment on the concerns when approached.
Plans to build on the land also include 'extensive landscaping' throughout the development, and a pledge to create a mix of property types including homes suited to first-time buyers.
Housing is a major issue in Stockport and last year the government imposed higher housebuilding targets on the borough to meet local demand.
Under the new targets, Stockport has to build around 2,000 homes a year. But the council has shared major development plans, such as building 8,000 new homes in the town centre over the next 15 years.
