A nurse in Stockport has received a top national award, in recognition of her care for patients and colleagues.

Carole Sparks - an assistant chief nurse at Stockport NHS trust - received the Cavell Star award, which celebrates the best standards of nursing care and leadership across the UK.

Carole began her nursing career in 1984. She joined Stockport NHS in 1988, and has now worked as a nurse in Stockport for almost 37 years.

Carole is described by colleagues as kind, caring and compassionate leader, always visible and approachable, and always willing to take the time to give support and coaching where it is needed.

The Cavell Nurses Trust is a charity which supports nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants, providing grants, advice and a listening ear to those who may be experiencing difficulty. Its Star Awards are offered to outstanding members of these professions across the UK, who go above and beyond in their duties.

Helen Howard, Deputy Chief Nurse for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said: "I am really delighted that Carole has received the Cavell Star award, which she has truly earned.

"Carole wears her uniform with pride, and maintains and role models high standards at all times.

"Her wisdom is profound and she is always able to offer a good sounding board, as well as being a professional, dedicated valued member of the team. She has had an amazing career to date and continues to thrive in her role. Congratulations Carole!"
