Romiley-based theatre club NK Theatre Arts has been presented with a £3,000 cheque as part of the donations given by the outgoing Mayor of Stockport, Cllr David Wilson, for his charity fundraising last year.

Based in the Forum Theatre, NK Theatre Arts delivers theatre workshops and performances for children, young people and adults, "with the aim of breaking down barriers, combating anxiety among children and gaining confidence and life skills", NK says.

The theatre has been a registered charity since 1995.

"We believe that so much can be learnt through the medium of performance and have toured local schools addressing pertinent issues such as internet safety, anti-social behaviour, drug and alcohol abuse and many more [...]

"NK is proud to put the community at the heart of everything we do. We promote self-belief, an all-embracing team spirit and empathy for others regardless of ability, disability, status and culture as we help everyone maximise their full potential in the exploration of performing arts and gain invaluable life skills and confidence."

Cllr Wilson hopes that the funding will allow NK to 'continue the fine work'.

Kerry Day, artistic director from NK Theatre Arts said: "We were thrilled to receive such a generous donation from the Mayor's charity as part of his giving following his fundraising.

"The pressures people are facing at this time really make it difficult for the families of so many of the children we work with week in and week out which has had an impact on the income we would normally generate.

"The demand on our outreach work to deliver sessions in schools is also unprecedented at this time.

"The donation will go to support our ongoing work and the rising costs we face to continue to deliver the very best we can for the young people of Stockport and we would like to thank David for his fantastic support during his time in office."

Cllr Wilson himself said: "I am delighted to be able to make this donation to NK Theatre Arts. I have seen first-hand the amazing way it provides such wonderful experiences to so many children from throughout Stockport and I can see the difference it is making for them.

"It is a wonderful charity, having such a positive impact in their community and I know this funding will help to continue this fine work."
