Budding scientists across Stockport can look forward to a special event at Central Library on 10 February.

The 'Make Stuff' day will feature a range of activities and experiments for young and old scientists alike.

These include feeling 1000 watts of bass power though your fingers, watching some dancing alien slime (Oobleck), making conraptions from upcycled computer guts, and much more.

There are 20 activities in all, teaching skills such as soldering, crafting, coding and more along the way.

Each activity will last around 15-20 minutes, and is open to all, irrespective of age or ability.

The event will run from 11am-3pm. Tickets cost £5 per family, although other tickets are available. For more details, check out the Make Stuff website HERE.

Make Stuff is one of a number of events taking place throughout February. Indeed, as the council has announced, February 2024 will be the month of 'DigiFest'.

This comprises a month of digitally-themed events, ranging from 3D modelling classes to basic digital support sessions. Aimed at everybody in the borough, the goal is to 'reach specialist areas as well as the general public'.

More than 70 events are scheduled for the month. You can find a full list HERE.

A council spokesperson said: "DigiFest will be a superb way for people to explore digital in creative ways that will help bridge the digital divide caused by digital exclusion."

On the one hand, then, the events aim to improve 'digital literacy' - but, equally, there is also a focus on more advanced skills, such as video game design and podcast production.
