Road closures, teams, timings, and more - everything you need to know for this weekend's Krazy Races event

The Krazy Races event - which will see around 30 teams of soapbox racers speed around Stockport town centre - is just around the corner.
The race takes place on Sunday 9 August, beginning in St Peter's Square.
Teams will whizz through Mersey Square, past The Plaza, and down towards Stockport Air Raid Shelter, relying on gravity and a big push to soar past the finish line.
The event is free for visitors, with racers hoping to raise money for their selected charities.
Alongside the races, a classic car show and a special Battle of Britain flypast will be wowing the town centre on Sunday's event.
Here are the key details you need to know:
Will any roads be closed?
Yes, some Stockport town centre roads will be closed to other vehicles throughout the day to make room for the racers.
Temporary closures will be in place from 4am-9pm at:
- St Peter's Square
- Mersey Square
- Chestergate
- Rock Row
- St Petersgate (between Lawernce Street and Piccadilly)
- Piccadilly (between Duke Street and St Petersgate)
- Duke Street
- Great Underbank
- Bridge Street (at junction with Warren Street)
- Lower Hillgate (between Little Underbank and Wellington Street)
What are the timings for the day?
Teams will be arriving from 8.30am.
The race officially kicks off with a launch event at 10.45am.
Not long after that, from 11am-1pm, the first bout of racing will take place.
After a short break (1-2pm), racing continues from 2-4pm.
The top seven final takes place from 4pm, followed by a trophy presentation at 4.30pm.
What teams are taking part?
Twenty-seven teams have been announced for Totally Stockport Krazy Races 2026, with local businesses, charities and teams launching their gravity-powered builds from St Peter's Square.
Visitors can expect outrageous themes, costumes and krazy moments from the soapboxes, all raising money for local charities and causes.
Here are the teams fighting for this years' trophies:
- Stockport County FC - Stockport County Football Club are swapping their boots for wheels in support of County Community Trust.
- Elevated Knowledge - Elevated Knowledge LTD will be using their engineering know-how to raise money for When You Wish Upon a Star and Signpost For Carers.
- Superjet - Superjet are hoping to jet to the finish line, in aid of Signpost For Carers.
- High Peak Comps - Nub News sponsor High Peak Comps might be used to dishing out wins, but can they take home the trophy for Signpost For Carers?
- Coffee Block - Coffee Block are powering their entry with caffeine and gravity, to raise funds for The Christie Charity.
- Salt Sep - Salt Separation Services will be treating us to a salty spin in aid of Springhill Hospice.
- Robinsons Racers - Frederic Robinson LTD are brewing up their creation to raise for Prostate Cancer Support.
- Norse Power - This team of individuals are supporting Signpost For Carers.
- Octo-Box - Octopus Energy will be putting all their arms into a win for Signpost For Carers.
- Marple Mad Athletic - Marple Athletic JFC are also hanging up their boots to raise money for Signpost For Carers.
- Speedy Sign Post - Signpost For Carers have been supporting young and adult carers in Stockport for more than thirty years, they'll be racing to raise money for carers across the region.
- Stockroom - With no shortage of creativity, Stockroom have been reading the books on how to bag a win for Signpost For Carers.
- The Sugar Snatchers - Wish Dental might have an extra push from the Tooth Fairy in raising funds for Signpost For Carers.
- Enigma - Dale Nightlife Limited are racing for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.
- SK Bombardiers - This team of individuals are supporting Bliss, a charity supporting premature and sick babies.
- FARM - These individuals are raising funds for Signpost For Carers.
- Devils Haircut Racing - This team of individuals are supporting Signpost For Carers.
- Account On Us To Win - Hurst Accountants LTD are counting on a win for Engage Grow Go, a charity helping people move beyond homelessness for good.
- The Smooth Criminals - These individuals are racing for The Joshua Tree, a charity supporting the wellbeing of families affected by childhood cancers.
- Royal Nawaab Pyramid - Signpost For Carers are drawing on the most iconic Stockport building for their next supporter.
- Dentona RC Speedway - These speedy individuals are supporting Signpost For Carers.
- Age UK Propelled - Age UK are raising funds to support older people in the community.
- The Paramedics - North West Ambulance Charity are flying the flag for funding projects, equipment and initiatives in the community.
- The Boysmin - This team of individuals are racing for The Linda Norgrove Foundation, a trust that helps fund education, health and childcare for women and children in Afghanistan.
- Astronaughticles - These individuals are supporting Signpost For Carers.
- Tonight We Steal Da Moon - These despicably Gru-inspired individuals are raising funds for Signpost For Carers.
- North Chesire Forestry - Fighters Against the Yellow-Legged Hornet - North Cheshire Forestry Services Limited are fighting hornets while racing for Signpost For Carers.
