Residents call for tougher action as police conduct speed checks around Stockport
Residents have called for tougher action as Greater Manchester Police (GMP) carried out speed enforcement work in areas including Strines, Hazel Grove and Marple.
Twitter and Facebook posts from Stockport GMP over the past few days showed officers using speed guns to target vehicles over the limit.
One post stated: "The majority of road users were driving safely and within the speed limits, but despite this, several drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit and have been issued with Traffic Offence Reports."
However, residents voiced their frustration at feeling certain areas were being overlooked.
A popular comment on a post stressed the prevalence of dangerous drivers in the centre of Stockport, with areas around Edgeley also being called out for speeding.
Heaton Norris was also mentioned as overlooked, following a dog being hit there last week.
Stockport GMP emphasised that the checks were part of the Fatal5 campaign, aimed at tackling the five biggest dangers whilst driving: careless driving, drink or drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, distraction (caused by things like mobile phones), and speeding.
