The Met Office has issued two thunderstorm weather warnings for Stockport.

The first yellow weather warning will be in place until 10pm tonight (26 August) with a further warning issued for Thursday (27 August) between 6am and 10pm.

Until this evening, there is small risk of flooding and disruption due to thunderstorms.

There is a small chance homes and businesses could become flooded with damage being caused to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail.

Due to flooding, there could be delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

This could also make driving conditions difficult and mean roads need to be closed.

There is also a slight possibility of power cuts.

Tomorrow, continued thunderstorms with addition of heavy rain could make power cuts more likely, cause flooding to happen more quickly and could lead communities to be cut off by flooded roads.

What should you do to stay safe?

• Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding and if so prepare a flood plan and emergency flood kit
• Before winds arrive, secure moveable objects such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds and fences
• Check road conditions before travelling by car or public transport
• Gather torches, batteries, mobile phone power packs and other essential items in case of a power cut
• If you are out and hear thunder, find a safe, enclosed shelter. Do not shelter under or near trees which could be struck by lightning and if in an elevated area, move to lower ground
