Repair works will be carried out on the yellow and green zones at Merseyway car park from the end of this month.

The works are part of a programme of essential structural repairs and waterproofing, to ensure safety for car park users.

The car park will not close completely, and 1,000 spaces will remain available both in Merseyway and elsewhere in the town centre.

Those areas of the car park which are remaining open will be clearly signposted.

A one-way system will be in place, although all vehicle entrances and exits will be open and accessible.

Similar works have already taken place in other parts of the car park - repairs on the orange zone, for example, have almost finished.

A Stockport Council spokesperson said the works are being co-ordinated with other roadworks and events in the town centre as much as possible.

They added: "The works will continue help to protect this town centre asset and support businesses as well as providing a further boost to the town centre."
