Plans for a £4m business park in Stockport are tipped to be approved and provide a major boost to Greater Manchester's economy.

The proposal – known as Cheadle Eco Business Park – is expected to create up to 300 full-time equivalent roles and attract 'significant' investment to the area.

Funding for the scheme came from the government's Town Fund, which is aiming to 'rebalance' the national economy.

The proposed business park is aiming for an 'outstanding' rating from BREEAM – a measure of sustainability performance of buildings.

It will aim to be net zero carbon for construction and its operations, and using air source heat pump technology.

The scheme is located on council-owned land on Bird Hall Lane in Cheadle Heath, within a 'well-established' industrial area.

It will house firms working in distribution and manufacturing, as well as creating new hybrid workspaces.

The location is considered to be 'highly prominent' and is close to the M60, offering transport connections by road for workers and businesses.

There are also buses which travel to the area from the new Stockport transport interchange.

If the plan is approved, it will see six commercial units created spread across three blocks, with an outdoor area for employees to enjoy.

It's not the only project transforming Greater Manchester's economy, after a planning application for a new data centre in Stockport was recently approved by councillors.

A member of the company said Stockport was chosen for the data centre because of its skilled workforce and location.

This has been followed by major work to upgrade the area around Stockport railway station, a development known as Stockport Exchange, which is creating new office space and public areas for residents.

There are also plans to build more homes around Stockport to help attract people to live and work around the borough.
