Police stop 73 vehicles during Stockport traffic patrol

Police officers stopped 73 vehicles on Manchester Road for driving infractions during a patrol yesterday (Tuesday 26 August).
Following reports from members of the community, police were deployed to monitor the four potential causes of road traffic collisions: speeding, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and mobile phone use.
Collectively, these dangers are known as the Fatal 4.
Officers were in place throughout the day, monitoring Manchester Road, which runs between Reddish and Heaton Chapel.
In all, police stopped 73 vehicles. The biggest problem was not wearing a seatbelt; in all, there were 18 instances of this during the patrol.
Police also found 12 vehicles with incorrect number plates, and eight drivers using mobile phones.

Two of the vehicles were seized for no insurance.
There was also one instance of an insecure load, and another of a cannabis warning following a stop and search.
The increased patrols came as part of Greater Manchester Police's 'Safe4Summer' initiative.
As Chief Constable Matt Boyle explained: "This isn't about trying to spoil people's fun over the summer months, it is making sure everyone can enjoy themselves without feeling unsafe or being hurt."
A police spokesperson also said: "Thank you to those on our roads who drive safely and considerately. If you spot anything, or have any concerns within your community or out on the road you can contact us on LiveChat, or by making a report online."
