Plans have been submitted for the demolition of the former Bamboo Club building off London Road, Hazel Grove.

The premises buildings - permanently closed since 2023 - will be demolished to make room for 'redevelopment at some point', according to the planning application.

For many this will no doubt be a sad end to a building with a rich history. Having opened in 1961, the Bamboo Club has seen multiple generations of visitors, and has been the site of countless chance meetings, musical performances, and more.

The applicant seeks to commence work on 10 January, with a finish date set for 28 February.

The application has been submitted to check whether approval for demolition would be required. In other words, the planning authority has been notified that the developer intends to demolish the site, and it can determine whether or not prior approval will be required.

If demolition goes ahead, passers-by can expect little disruption to the nearby roads.

The consultation expiry date is Saturday 6 January. You can find the application HERE.
