Plans have been revealed for a 'green gateway' estate in Stockport with 106 new homes along 'treelined' streets.

The scheme by Story Homes and Stockport Grammar School could use the school's land on Dialstone Lane, which has been out of use for the last seven years according to planning reports.

Use of the land by Stockport Grammar School as sports pitches is considered 'no longer feasible' due to the distance from the main school site which is a 12-minute walk away.

The plans come as Stockport is facing major housing pressures, with more than 9,000 people on the social housing list.

The new proposals would create a mix of one to five-bedroom house types on the land if approved.

A planning report set out the design plans: 'Access into the development from Dialstone Lane will be formed with green gateway frontages creating a sense of arrival with a focal point to terminate the view into the site from the access.

'Treelined streets (tree planting to front gardens) and private drives form the highway structure through the proposed development.'

Half the homes would be sold at 'affordable' prices according to the report, which includes 'shared ownership' and 'affordable' rents.

The land is near to the A6 Buxton Road and Stepping Hill Hospital. The planning report added: 'The site is in a sustainable and accessible location, close to shops and supermarkets with the benefit of transport links into local towns and city centres such as Stockport town centre and Manchester city centre.'

Story Homes went on to say in the report: 'The development will result in the creation of a well-informed attractive neighbourhood, not overly dominated by the car and will also integrate seamlessly with its surroundings, responding positively to the existing character of the area.'

According to Stockport council's planning portal, more than 80 comments have already been made by residents about the plans.

The council has set a target date of April 29 to decide the planning application.
