A street in Heaton Norris is cordoned off today (Monday 24 August) as police investigate a suspected drugs lab.

Specialist officers carried out a warrant at a commercial premises on Gordon Street as part of an investigation into a suspected drugs operation, which involved the preparation, storage and exportation of liquid controlled drugs.

As part of the same investigation, two men in their 20s have been arrested in Salford on suspicion of exporting drugs.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police carried out the warrant wearing protective equipment to safeguard against potentially hazardous substances.

A scene will remain in place while forensic tests are carried out and enquiries continue.

The warrant follows months of detailed planning, and collaboration with emergency services and Salford and Stockport councils.

Police have said the operation they have uncovered had the potential to expose residents, workers and visitors to harmful substances and fire and safety risks.

Chief Superintendent John-Paul Ruffle, tactical commander for the operation, said: "Today's successful result follows months of detailed investigation, partnership working and operational planning.

"Working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), local authority partners and a range of specialist police resources, we have safely executed warrants, arrested two suspects and secured significant evidential opportunities.

"The coordinated multi-agency response has allowed us to safely manage those risks while ensuring that those suspected of being involved in serious organised criminality are brought before the courts.

"We will not tolerate the production, preparation or exportation of controlled drugs within our communities and will continue to pursue those involved relentlessly."

Police also called for anybody with information on any suspicious in their area to come forward.
