New development to deliver 'high-quality' housing for Stockport residents with learning disabilities
By Alasdair Perry 17th Feb 2026
Work has started on a new housing development for Stockport residents with learning disabilities.
Based on the former Bredbury civic hall site, the new scheme will provide 12 'high-quality' homes, due to open in March 2027.
The homes will comprise four self-contained apartments, with 24-hour staff access.
They are designed to allow the residents to live independently while maintaining easy access to support they need.
It's also expected that the residents will be able to learn new skills and socialise using a range of shared facilities - including a communal lounge; a kitchen and dining area; communal shower facilities; a dedicated laundry room; a staff office and a sleep-in room.
The building has also been designed to achieve an EPC A rating – the highest level of energy efficiency.
The scheme makes use of brownfield land and is being delivered by MSV Housing Group in partnership with Stockport Council, Homes England, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Cllr Mark Roberts, leader of Stockport Council, said: "Giving everyone in our borough the opportunity to have access to a safe, high‑quality home is at the heart of our ambition for Stockport.
"This development is another important step toward ensuring that people with learning disabilities can live independently, safely and confidently within their local community."
Cllr Micheala Meikle, cabinet member for regeneration, added: "As we continue to regenerate Stockport, inclusive schemes like this show how disused land is being transformed to support communities and improve lives for people across the borough.
"Thank you to our partners for making this happen and particularly to MSV for delivering this life-changing scheme."
Charlie Norman, CEO of MSV Housing Group, also said: "This scheme is so important. Not only will MSV be providing much needed new homes so people can live independently in their community (something we hold very dearly to our hearts), but we will be bringing a brownfield site back into use, one which has been subject to fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
"We are absolutely committed to developing schemes which help the most marginalised in society and these new homes will make a massive difference to the lives of the residents."
