Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Stockport Homes have announced their plans to support anti-social behaviour (ASB) awareness week, in a variety of ways.

ASB awareness week runs from 3-9 July. Throughout the week, there will be a series of national events taking place involving councils, police, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.

The week is organised by Resolve - the UK's leading ASB and community safety organisation - and aims to increase knowledge around ASB. This may include raising awareness of victims' rights, dispelling common myths around ASB, celebrating people who 'excel and inspire in their response to ASB', and more.

GMP, for one, has stated: "At a local level, officers and partners will be out-and-about across the region, highlighting the ongoing work that is taking place to address ASB-related issues that affect our communities. This will include patrols in hotspot areas."

Superintendent Roger Pegram, the force's lead for ASB, said: "We are supporting ASB Awareness Week to increase people's understanding of what ASB is and the impact it has on our communities, and to highlight the options available to those facing it.

"Everyone has a right to feel safe, which is why tackling ASB is a priority for ourselves and partners and I would like to take this opportunity to stress that the type of behaviour that intimidates or puts people at risk, is completely unacceptable and won't be tolerated."

Meanwhile, Stockport Homes - the borough's housing association - is today (4 July) receiving stories from residents who have had experiences of ASB. Yesterday (3 July), the organisation hosted a stall at Stockport Town Hall to further raise awareness.

Commenting, Liz Smith head of Safer Neighbourhoods said: "Stockport Homes understands how antisocial behaviour can blight the lives of residents living in neighbourhoods. Working with our partners in the One Stockport Safer Partnership, SHG is committed to raising awareness of how we can support victims and take positive action to bring ASB to an end so that people can live peacefully in their homes."

Keep an eye out for other ASB awareness events taking place across the borough.
