One thousand illegal vapes have been seized as part of a police operation in Stockport.

As part of 'Operation Rimini', police seized the vapes from two shops in Edgeley. In total, they're worth an estimated £8,000.

Disposable vapes are illegal in the UK as of 1 June 2025.

Operation Rimini involves the deployment of extra resources and patrols, to tackle crime in Stockport town centre and the surrounding areas.

As well as the vape seizures, police carried out 12 stop and searches and also detained a prolific shoplifter who was identified by officers on the beat.

Inspector Jason Holmwood, from the Central Stockport Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "Patrols took place across the town with the Mounted Unit, Transport Unit and neighbourhood officers out in force.

"This high-visibility policing during the day will have deterred crime and anti-social behaviour taking place on our streets.

"We respond to the concerns of the community, people living, working and shopping in the town centre – so far this year, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour have dropped in the town centre.
