A brand new animated film made by Ukrainians is playing at The Light in Stockport town centre.

'Mavka - The Forest Song', based on ancient Ukrainian myths and legends, will be comfort viewing for our Stockport-based Ukrainians, whether they moved here before the war or after it began.

The film is based on a 1918 poetic play, and will be shown at The Light following its release at the weekend.

This child-friendly film will be shown in both English and Ukrainian (with English subtitles), with times as follows:

  • Ukrainian: Thursday 3 August, 10.15am
  • English dubbed: Friday 4 August, 9.40am

A description for this 99-minute movie reads: "Mavka - a soul of the Forest - faces an impossible choice between love and her duty as guardian to the Heart of the Forest, when she falls in love with a human - the talented young musician Lukash.

"Our story is about the magical power of love. That kind of love that enables human nature to find the magic within and reveals abilities and qualities that empower a person to reach beyond possible and to hold against evil and human vice."
