New £100m masterplan could see more than 600 homes built in Stockport

A £100m masterplan has been revealed to build hundreds of 'much-needed' homes close to the border of Stockport and Cheshire.
Developer Bloor Homes has submitted the plans to Stockport council for approval, with hopes of building 675 homes on land in Heald Green East between the A34 and A555.
The plans involve creating a new local centre to provide 'essential services' for future residents, including a health clinic.
Space has also been earmarked for a future park and ride facility and train station, which bosses say would need to be brought forward by Network Rail or Transport for Greater Manchester.
The plans have been shared at a time when Stockport is under pressure to build more homes across the borough.
Last year, the government said Stockport needs to build 1,906 homes a year to keep up with demand, nearly double the previous ask of 1,097.
Tom Loomes, senior planning manager at Bloor Homes, said the borough "urgently needs" more housing and stressed the need for existing families and residents to be able to plan their futures in Stockport.
He added: "We are committed to ensuring that local people have the opportunity to stay in Stockport, in a well-designed home and community that meets their needs."
Designs for the Heald Green East development include more than 20 acres of green space, along with parks, gardens, play areas, and community growing spaces.
It also has routes for walking, cycling and running, with links to local roads as well as public transport with Heald Green and Cheadle Hulme train stations located nearby.
The proposals have a mix of family properties as well as downsizer homes, and specialist accommodation such as bungalows.
These would be built with sustainability in mind, the developer said, with energy-efficient features such as solar panels and non-gas boilers.
Blood Homes said the masterplan would see more than £100m invested into the local area if approved, creating more than 500 construction jobs in total.
Elsewhere, there are more plans in the area to bring forward new developments.
An expansion of Stockport's Woodford Garden Village could see more than 500 new homes built in the borough, and over the border in Cheshire there are plans to build a new village east of Handforth with 1,500 homes.
Stockport council has also outlined plans to build 8,000 homes in the town centre over the next 15 years – part of the regeneration work taking place led by the town hall and Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation.
