M&S have announced that their new Simply Food store on Stockport Retail Park will be opening on 14 June.

The new M&S Food Hall will occupy the site of the old Next store - covering around 16,000 sq ft - and will provide service to customers in a 'bigger and bolder' store following the closure of the Merseyway site in 2021.

It will stock the full M&S Simply Food range, and offer Click & Collect service, and will include special features such as a dedicated wine shop and a large bakery.

"We will shortly be opening the most incredible store with a brand new bigger, better and bolder store experience", said store manager Anna in a statement.

"Our store has been designed with local families at its heart and I can't wait for you to discover all the exciting things we have in store", she added.

Some 'really special plans' were also promised for the opening day.

M&S retail operations director Sacha Berendji expressed his hopes that the new store would provide an excellent service for Stockport residents, and stated that it would create 70 new jobs.

He issued the following statement: "Whilst other retailers go online, or sadly disappear, we are committed to having great shops.

"This means having the right store, in the right place, with the right space to serve our customers the way they want to shop today."
