Stockport will soon be welcoming a new bar and restaurant.

The Jane Eyre, a new food and drink venue specialising in wines, cocktails, local beers and small plates, will be opening at Weir Mill in the west of Stockport town centre.

Weir Mill is a new neighbourhood comprising homes, restaurants and shops, based around the former 18th-century cotton mill overlooking the River Mersey.

The Jane Eyre is the latest addition to the lineup of operators which will be opening on the site - others include The Social Osteria (an Italian restaurant), Prologue (a cafe, bar and bookshop), Rita Ray's (a sports bar) and Kontrol (a Pilates studio).

Following on from their success in running sites in Ancoats and Chorlton, The Jane Eyre team have said they are 'beyond excited' to be coming to Stockport.

The building will feature an atmospheric interior, with soft lighting, stacks of dripping candles, and carefully-sourced decor and glassware.

They also promise a carefully-curated soundtrack, aiming to "carry visitors from post-work drinks into late-night hangs".

Charlie Bradley from The Jane Eyre said the team are 'really proud' to be opening at Weir Mill.

"Stockport is home for us, and we've always believed in it – so to be part of a project like this feels very special", he said.

"Everything we do is about creating something guests want to return to – from warm, welcoming hospitality to thoughtful food and drink, done simply, in a space that feels right from the minute you walk in. Weir Mill is exactly the kind of neighbourhood we want to be part of, and we're beyond excited to bring The Jane Eyre home."

Cllr Micheala Meikle, cabinet member for Regeneration, Skills and Economy, added: "Having Jane Eyre choose Weir Mill for its next restaurant is a real endorsement of the quality and ambition of this development.

"As a much‑loved independent with a strong reputation in the region, the decision to open here as the anchor tenant reflects the growing appeal of Weir Mill and Stockport as a leading destination - somewhere people actively seek out to eat, meet and enjoy time together.

"This is exactly what regeneration should deliver: new jobs, strong independents and more reasons for people to spend time in the town centre, while keeping the character that makes Stockport what it is.

"Investment of this quality shows the direction we're heading and the momentum we're building, ensuring Stockport remains a vibrant, welcoming and thriving place for residents, visitors and businesses alike."

Weir Mill is due to open this year, and is being delivered by property developer Capital&Centric.

John Moffat, managing director at Capital&Centric, said: "We've always wanted Weir Mill to feel like more than just somewhere to live.

"Bringing in operators like The Jane Eyre helps create the kind of neighbourhood people want to visit, whether that's for a Sunday roast, midweek drinks or catching up with mates.

"They've got a brilliant eye for atmosphere, and we know they'll bring something really special to the community"
