New bookshop, cafe and bar coming to Stockport town centre
By Alasdair Perry 13th Apr 2026
A new 'cultural hub' is coming to Stockport.
Prologue - a new bookshop, cafe and bar - is opening in the town centre, delivered by the same team behind Simply Books in Bramhall.
While opening dates and exact location are yet to be confirmed, there's already lots to look forward to.
Announcing the news, Simply Books co-owner Ben Johns said the team were 'really excited' to be starting their next chapter.
"(Prologue) takes all the best parts of Simply Books and supercharges them", he said.
Visitors can expect a great range of books, of course, plus a coffee shop serving speciality drinks.
And excitingly, Prologue will also transform into a 'buzzy' and 'warm' bar by the evenings - the perfect spot for a cosy late reading session or a laid-back evening meet up.
Further still, the venue - which is roughly double the size of Simply Books in Bramhall - will host live events such as author talks, music, comedy, and more, on what will be the first permanent bookshop stage in the UK.
And while there are lots of exciting things planned at this Stockport venue by the Simply Books team, they have reassured shoppers that their existing store in Bramhall will not be going anywhere.
"We've been so honoured to be welcomed as part of the community in such a big way in Bramhall, and we don't take that for granted at all", Ben said.
"This means that nothing is changing at Simply Books - we're not going anywhere, we're not planning to. Everything you love - the team you love - is staying exactly the same."
