Less than a week remaining to try special CAMRA ale trail in Stockport borough
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) 'Mild Magic' trail is currently back in Stockport, for the 30th year running.
However, there are only a few days left to take part in this special anniversary edition of Mild Magic.
The trail runs until Sunday 19 May, and features 97 participating pubs across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, many of which are in Stockport borough.
Trail-goers are encouraged to sample mild beers in different pubs in different areas, and will be rewarded with beer vouchers and limited edition clothing for doing so.
Many pubs across Stockport borough are involved, covering all compass points: Marple Bridge in the east; Cheadle and Gatley in the west; the Heatons in the north; and Hazel Grove in the south; and everywhere in-between!
The town centre is no exception, with the Baker's Vaults, Calvert's Court, Cocked Hat, Crown, Magnet and Petersgate Tap, and the Olde Vic in Edgeley all taking part.
The 97 pubs taking part fall into one of 71 different geographical areas. To win prizes, participants must sample at least a half pint of mild in at least 12 different pubs in 12 different areas - and collect a badge to prove they have done so!
Having started in 1994, this trail is CAMRA's most-popular and longest-running mild event.
The mild style of beer developed as early as the 18th century. Some say it is dying out, but, as CAMRA states, "the Manchester area has always been a bastion of the style".
Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA chairman John Clarke said: "From starting life in 1994 as a celebration of the widespread local availability of mild, Mild Magic essentially became a search and rescue operation as one brewery after another dropped the style.
"In more recent years, there seems to have been something of a revival, with many smaller brewers having a mild available for short periods.
Current trail organiser Darren Berry added: "Please support [the participating pubs] and enjoy yourselves seeking out this rare ale style!"
