A new state-of-the-art hospice has opened in Greater Manchester, providing care and support for people in the community.

Moya Cole Hospice, formerly St. Ann's, opened its new £26.5m site in Heald Green, Cheadle, today (Wednesday 13 May).

The hospice provides holistic care to patients with life-limiting illnesses - comprising inpatient care, and supportive outpatient services from its sites at Heald Green, Stockport and Little Hulton, Salford.

Rachel McMillan, Chief Executive for Moya Cole Hospice, says the new hospice facility is 'a dream come true'.

"This new site will make a world of difference to our patients, their families, and their loved ones for generations to come", she said.

The hospice comprises two linked buildings, with 27 patient beds, rehabilitation facilities, a family lounge, and an interior courtyard for patients and their loved ones.

Moya Cole Hospice funded over £2m for the development with help from the community and public donations as part of the Build it Together appeal.

The hospice relies heavily on public donations and needs to raise approximately £20,000 per day to keep the two hospice sites operational.

Work started on the new building in June 2024, and the construction team raised over £95,000 for the hospice during the project.

The development was carried out by Caddick Construction. Dave Saville, Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North West, said: "The new Moya Cole Hospice is one of the most rewarding projects we've worked on.

"Ensuring this development was built to the highest standard to provide the community with vital, high-quality care and support has been our constant priority.

"It has been a very special project, with the staff at Moya Cole becoming more than just clients to us, and it is fantastic to see the new hospice open its doors. "
