Met Office issues yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Stockport
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 12th Feb 2026
Stockport residents have been warned to prepare for outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering large parts of the North of England, including most of Stockport.
This is likely to impact journey times on roads and railways and could result in injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
"Outbreaks of rain will fall as snow over higher hills initially, before the snow starts to fall to lower levels through Thursday evening," reads the Met Office website.
"Any settling snow will mainly be confined to high ground, above 200 metres 2 to 5 cm is possible, and above 300 metres, a few locations may see as much as 10 cm.
"The rain and snow is expected to clear south during the early hours of Friday with temperatures expected to fall quickly as skies clear, leading to ice on untreated surfaces."

The yellow weather warning comes into effect at 7pm on Thursday, February 12.
It will remain in place until midday on Friday, February 13.
Those heading out are urged to check for road closures or delays and amend plans if necessary.
If you need to make a journey on foot, the Met Office advises to use pavements along main roads, which are likely to be less slippery.
"Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy," the national weather service's website adds.
"Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
"Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
