Marple's new community hub on track for opening in autumn 2026 as progress continues
By Alasdair Perry 12th Feb 2026
Progress is continuing on the new community and leisure hub in Marple, due to open in Autumn 2026.
The new building, which promises to be a 'major boost' for Stockport, will comprise a modern library, a five-lane swimming pool, a 60-station fitness suite, a café, and a relocated Marple Clinic.
The structure is now taking shape, with the roof on, the pool in place, and the ground floor slab in the process of being poured.
In the ensuing construction phases, construction teams will begin working on the exterior and prepare for the internal fit out, due to take place later in the year.
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Housing, said "excitement is really building" for the new hub.
"This project will bring huge benefits to the town - modern leisure facilities, improved health services, and a welcoming community space at the heart of Marple", Cllr Meikle said.
"You can already see the hub transforming the skyline, and it's set to become a landmark building that residents will be proud of.
"This is a major investment in happier, healthier lives and a fantastic example of the high-quality, community-led regeneration happening across our borough."
The new building will replace a number of outdated buildings in the area.
For one, it replaces the former swimming pool, which closed in 2018 for safety reasons.
It will also host a relocated library and clinic.
