Marple's new leisure hub is making 'exciting progress' ahead of its opening later this year, Stockport Council has said.

The building, which will serve as a new library, social spot and fitness centre, is 'starting to take shape' with a number of key milestones reached.

Scaffolding has now been removed, with brickwork complete and external cladding now underway.

The five-lane swimming pool is also taking shape, now that tiling has started.

The rest of the interior is progressing at a similar rate, with walls, ceilings, and other key installations now in place.

Over the coming weeks, further landscaping will be carried out, along with more internal details such as changing rooms.

Once complete, the hub promises to be a space 'shaped by the community, for the community'.

Due to open in 2026, it will comprise a modern library, the aforesaid five-lane swimming pool, a 60-station fitness suite, a café, and a relocated Marple Clinic.

Alongside the Hub, Marple Memorial Park will also be getting £500,000 worth of improvements, including a new agility trail, pump track and improved walking routes, as well as a new multi-play frame and slide for families to enjoy.
