A CEO and former headteacher at Cheadle Hulme High School has been honoured with a prestigious education award.

Linda Magrath OBE, chief executive officer of the Laurus Trust, has been named a Silver Winner in the lifetime achievement category of the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

The Pearson Awards run annually, and aim to recognise "the incredible work of teaching communities across the UK".

Linda has over four decades of experience in teaching.

In 2004, she became headteacher of Cheadle Hulme high school, and she is credited with establishing it as a successful, oversubscribed school.

Then, in 2012, Linda founded the Laurus Trust, which has grown into a family of 13 schools - nine of which are in Stockport borough.

The Trust says it is guided by Linda's core belief: that every young person, regardless of background, deserves the highest possible quality of education and the opportunity to succeed.

Responding to the award, Linda said: "I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such dedicated colleagues throughout my career.

"This recognition really belongs to the staff, students and families who make our schools such special places to learn and work.

"I have always believed that every child deserves the very best education, and it has been a privilege to play a part in that alongside so many committed people."

With a silver award under her belt, Linda will now be in with the chance of winning the prestigious Gold award, to be announced at a national ceremony in London and on BBC One's The One Show later this year.

The award coincided with National Thank a Teacher Day, which aims to recognise teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff across the UK.
