'Major' disruption for rail passengers passing through Stockport
By Alasdair Perry 16th Apr 2026
Passengers travelling through Stockport are facing long delays due to damage to the overhead electric wires at Manchester Piccadilly.
As of 12.04pm, trains have just started moving again from Stockport.
However, the knock-on effect of delays is expected to last for a few hours.
National Rail has said disruption is expected until 2pm.
Many services have been cancelled and others are facing long delays.
A National Rail spokesperson said: "Damage to the overhead electric wires at Manchester Piccadilly means that some lines are blocked.
"As a result, trains running to / from this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes."
