The coaches behind the 'We Do Tennis' programme at Cale Green Park have been recognised with an award at the Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association's annual awards.

The We Do Tennis programme ran for 20 weeks over the summer, and provided free training for 100 children.

Stockport has already given rise to the likes of Fred Perry and Liam Broady - why shouldn't the next tennis ace come from Cale Green park?

Councillor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways & Transport Services, said: "It's fantastic that the programme has been recognised by Cheshire LTA, as its main aim is to widen participation in tennis in Davenport, making it easier for children who haven't played the sport before to pick up a racquet and start playing."

She added: "It's not a one-off programme, the sessions will become a regular coaching programme for those that want to keep playing, making use of our fantastic resources and keeping children fit and healthy."

Andy Moss, Head of Parks at We Do Tennis, said: "It was an honour to receive the award, and the support from the Fred Perry Trust has been fantastic in bringing tennis into the community.

"The children who have taken part in the Cale Green Park programme have been extremely enthusiastic and show real passion and talent for tennis. Being able to bring this game to more children is a huge perk of the job and extremely rewarding."
