A new defibrillator has been installed outside the Aviator Pub in Woodford.

The lifesaving device was funded by a donation from Redrow - the housebuilder paid for the casing, and donated the defibrillator itself, which has been rehomed from elsewhere.

It will serve the residents of Woodford Garden Village and beyond.

Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow, said: "A defibrillator can make a massive difference to the potential survivability in the event of a cardiac arrest. We hope it never needs to be used but it is there now just in case."

Peter Crossen, who applied to Redrow's community fund on behalf of the Woodford Garden Village Residents' group, said: "70 people die in Stockport each month due to heart and circulatory disease.

"That's one person every 11 hours. Plus, 7,600 Stockport residents have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and in the North West.

"Only one in 13 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest - that was why it was so important to us to get a defibrillator installed somewhere on our development. It is great that we now have a device so close to home."

Woodford Garden Village will combine 920 homes, a pub, school, shops and an extensive network of green spaces including children's play areas, cycle pathways, parks, meadows and extensive tree planting.
