How this local charity is making a difference to the lives of cats in Stockport

Stockport's feline community makes the town that bit more pleasant to be in.
Whether you're a cat owner, or if you keep yourself just to saying 'hello' when you see one in the street, there's no doubting that an encounter with one of these creatures improves any day.
It's why protecting them is so important.
Enter Cats Protection Stockport - this charity has been dedicated to helping local cats, and their owners, for 35 years.
They also shelter cats who have been found abandoned.
To continue their vital work, the charity is looking for more volunteers.

Heather Robinson, Regional volunteer Team Leader, said: "Volunteering with Cats Protection is incredibly rewarding. It's a chance to meet new people, learn new skills, and help cats in need.
"Most people can offer the perfect foster home, including those with other pets! All you need is a spare room and the love and time to give to a cat in need.
"All equipment and training are provided. Ideally, you will have access to your own car for vet trips and other appointments.
"We are also looking for a Cat Welfare Team Leader to assist in supporting our fosterers, and a Publicity Team Leader to spread the word about the amazing work our team does."

Without volunteers the charity's work wouldn't be possible. It would have been impossible, for example, to care for Nya, who is partially blind and was found abandoned outside in Gatley. She's suspected to be suffering from cystitis.
Melanie Douglas, Cats Protection Stockport Team Leader, said: "When Nya first arrived, she was trembling with fear. The vets believe she may have been left outside overnight in the cold before she was discovered.
"At first, they thought she had cystitis, but during her time at the veterinary practice she toileted normally so they suspect her issues were due to the stress of her situation.
"Despite being blind in one eye and the trauma she endured Nya is incredibly friendly and is now thankfully recovering from her ordeal at our Warrington Cat Centre."
If you're looking to volunteer, Cats Protection are holding drop-in sessions at local libraries - you can find out more at:
- Hazel Grove Library, Thursday 15 May from 1pm
- The Heatons Library, Friday 23 May from 11am
Or, you can find more information about volunteering at [email protected].
