Historic Market Place building being converted into new creative and cultural hub

A grade II listed building in Stockport's Market Place is being converted into a new creative and cultural hub.
The black and white timber-framed building at 18/19 Market Place will be sensitively repurposed to provide space for working, events, and networking - specifically for any local creative and cultural organisations.
It promises to be a 'game-changer' for Stockport, and is due to be finished by mid-2027.
The building will form part of what is described as 'Stockport's Creative Campus' - the campus includes creative, cultural and business spaces in the town centre, such as Stockroom and the Merseyway Innovation Centre.
The redevelopment is being funded through a £2.2 million UK Government capital grant awarded through the second round of the Cultural Development Fund delivered by Arts Council England.
Cllr Micheala Meikle, cabinet member for economy, regeneration and skills, said: "This project is a game-changer for Stockport, putting our town on the map as a thriving hub for digital arts and creative industries.
"The investment we've secured, along with our fantastic partnerships, is creating new opportunities for local people and businesses while preserving the unique character of our historic town centre. We're excited for what's to come and look forward to seeing the Creative Campus flourish."
