From League One to La Liga: Stockport County coach poached by Real Madrid
Rumour has it a Stockport County football coach has been poached to work for one of the world's best-known football clubs.
Andy Mangan (38) is reportedly set to switch Greater Manchester for Los Blancos, to join the coaching staff at Real Madrid.
Stockport may be sitting pretty in second in League One right now, but it looks like the Liverpool-born coach will be sitting even prettier in second place in La Liga, the top flight of Spanish football.
It may sound like something from the video game Football Manager, but Mangan reportedly has close ties to the son of Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Paid subscription football news website The Athletic state that Mangan is currently waiting for a work permit, and has close links to Davide Ancelotti who is an assistant manager at the 2023-24 La Liga champions.
Mangan has been an assistant coach for The Hatters, focused on attacking, given his experience as a professional footballer.
Mangan had been with the club since March 2024, with his appointment officially announced in July 2024. However, the club have not release a public statement as of yet, confirming his departure.
Given the current international break and work permit wait, the silence could be understandable.
Confirmation has not
Both Stockport County and Real Madrid have been contacted by Stockport Nub News for comment.
A Stockport County spokesperson said: "The below is purely speculation at this stage and so the Club currently have no comment to add to it."
