Flying Scotsman to pass through Stockport this week
By Alasdair Perry 15th Jun 2026
Legendary locomotive The Flying Scotsman will be passing through Stockport again this month - just two weeks after it steamed through the borough on its way to Bury.
The Scotsman - pulled by a diesel locomotive - will pass through Stockport's platform 0 on Tuesday 16 June at around 4.29pm.
It will also pass through Hazel Grove, at an estimated time of 4.55pm.
Over the last few days it has been on static display at Bury railway station, and travelling around stretches of the East Lancashire Railway.
Described as 'The People's Engine', The Flying Scotsman is perhaps the most iconic steam locomotive in history.
Having first entered service in 1923, it has over 100 years of highs and lows - from being the first steam locomotive to reach 100 mph, through to narrowly escaping scrap due to cuts.
Once again, you can catch this piece of railway history in Stockport on Tuesday 16 June, as it makes its way to Doncaster.
