The UK Government has issued a flood alert for the Mersey River catchment, including areas near Bramhall and Stockport.

River levels are expected to rise overnight and into tomorrow morning (03/01/24) as a result of heavy rainfall.

For a detailed, regularly-updated map of affected areas in Stockport, see HERE.

A statement on gov.uk reads: "River levels remain high at the Brinksway river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton Brooks and their tributaries."

As far as flood warnings go, a 'flood alert' is the least severe, followed by 'flood warning', and 'severe flood warning'.

Nonetheless, areas under flood alert are still advised to prepare by frequently checking flood warnings and ensuring medicines and important documents are safe.

The government says that its incident support staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels in the meantime.
