UPDATE - Flood warning REMOVED around River Mersey at Cheadle Wood - disruption continues elsewhere
The UK Government has removed its flood warning for areas around the River Mersey near Cheadle.
The warning covered riverside areas near Parrs Wood and the Mersey Nature Vale. It has since reverted to 'flood alert', meaning flooding is possible but not absolutely expected.
As far as flood warnings go, a 'flood alert' is the least severe, followed by 'flood warning', and 'severe flood warning'.
Nonetheless, areas under flood alert are still advised to prepare by frequently checking flood warnings and ensuring medicines and important documents are safe.

The government says that its incident support staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels in the meantime.
Elsewhere in Stockport, disruption from heavy rainfall continues. The A555 has been closed in both directions between the Oil Terminal and the A34 junction at Handforth, whilst Crossley Road in Heaton Chapel also remains closed.
Flood alerts also remain in place for other areas around the Mersey. A statement from the Environment Agency reads: "River levels remain high at the Brinksway river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low-lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton Brooks and their tributaries."
