Firearms cache discovered in Reddish following police operation
By Alasdair Perry 1st May 2026
A firearms haul has been discovered in Reddish following a police operation in Stockport.
Guns, ammunition and a crossbow were discovered following a search warrant at an address in North Reddish.
A man in his 50s has been arrested under the Firearms Act, and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has opened an investigation to assess the legality of the firearms.
The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
The warrant was carried out as part of a two-day operation across Stockport borough, designed to crack down on crime through 'focussed', 'intelligence-led' policing.
The operation also saw multiple arrests, the safe return of a missing child, and 'significant' disruption to drugs operations in the area.
On one of the days, Tuesday 28 April, police also went on a bout of high-visibility patrols across the town centre.
During that day, five arrests were made, including four for offences including shoplifting, recall to prison, possession of Class B drugs and failure to provide details following a vehicle stop.
On the same day, a vehicle was seized after officers discovered it was displaying false plates. Further still, a high-risk missing child was located at Stockport Interchange and safely returned to their family.
Officers also carried out seven stop and searches and stopped five vehicles, resulting in two traffic offence reports being issued for driving related matters.
And in Woodley, police seized an illegal off-road motorbike and recovered small quantities of drugs.
Inspector Jason Holmwood said: "The results of the past two days demonstrate the impact of focussed, intelligence-led policing and high visibility patrols across Stockport.
"Responding to community concerns, gathering intelligence and working with partnership with others allows us to disrupt serious criminality, anti-social behaviour and protect vulnerable residents, making Stockport a safer place for people to live, work in and visit.
"Further activity is planned as part of ongoing efforts to ensure Stockport remains a safe place to live, work and visit.
"We will continue gathering intelligence and working closely with the community to detect and disrupt criminal activity, deter anti-social behaviour and protect vulnerable members of the community."
